The Town of East Hartford Reminds Dog Owners to License Their Dogs in June

East Hartford, CT—Mayor Michael P. Walsh and the East Hartford Town Clerk’s Office would like to remind all East Hartford residents that June is considered “dog license month.” By state statute, all dogs in the State of Connecticut six (6) months or older must be licensed each year during the month of June in the town where they reside.

The license will be valid from July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023. The fee for the license is $8 for a dog that is neutered/spayed, or $19 for dogs that are not neutered/spayed. A current rabies certificate is required for all dogs and a certificate of neuter/spay is required for dogs that will be licensed for the first time, or if recently neutered/spayed and therefore not yet on file with the Town Clerk’s office.

Dog licenses may be obtained from the Town Clerk’s Office, located in the East Hartford Town Hall at 740 Main Street. To fill out a dog license application form, click here. For additional details on dog licensing as well as a dog owner’s guide, visit this page.

Dog owners are encouraged to license their dog by submitting a filled-out application form by mail or simply dropping it off in our mailbox in the parking lot, and the Town Clerk’s office will promptly process the application and mail the license and dog tag(s). An in-person option is also available. When submitting the application by mail or drop box, please include a check for the proper fee, made payable to East Hartford Town Clerk, as well as all certificates (rabies, neuter/spay) and a self-addressed, stamped envelope. The mailing address is: East Hartford Town Hall, Town Clerk’s Office, 740 Main Street, East Hartford, CT 06108. All certificates will be returned with the new license and tag(s).

Dogs that are not licensed in the month of June will be charged a penalty of $1 per month thereafter. For example, if licensing a dog in August, the fee would be the $8 or $19 licensing fee + a $2 late fee.

Any dog over the age of six (6) months must be licensed. Any unlicensed dogs and/or roaming dogs will be subject to a $75 fine.

Please contact the Town Clerk’s Office at 860- 291-7230 with any questions or concerns.
