Dan O'Brien's Standards of Dysfunction/EHMS Global Jazz & Creative Music Ensemble/EHHS Jazz Band
dan O'Brien
On January 19 at the East Hartford Community Cultural Center, the second concert in the Intersections Concert Series will feature 3 different large ensembles performing a diverse range of jazz and improvised music. The East Hartford Middle School Global Jazz & Creative Music Ensemble (Dan O'Brien, director) and the East Hartford High School Jazz Band (Greg Hoyt & Christian Siegel, directors) will both perform sets fresh off of their school winter concerts the previous week. They will be followed by the professional band, Dan O'Brien's Standards of Dysfunction.

Standards of Dysfunction is a new large ensemble which performs spontaneous amalgams of modern jazz arrangements, conducted improvisation and free music. Rife with masterful jazz players and creative improvisers hailing from Boston, Connecticut and New York, Standards of Dysfunction parses out territory between some of music's major polarities; composition and improvisation, tonality and non-tonality, process and product and many more are always in play as the music unfolds. They will be going into the recording studio in spring 2023 to record their first full album based on the music you will hear on this concert.
