East Hartford Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a Lifeguard Job Fair and Info Night on Thursday, March 12, 2020 from 6:30-8:00 pm at the East Hartford High School Pool, located at 869 Forbes Street.  This event is open to anyone ages 13 years and older who may be interested in working as a lifeguard in the future.  There will be opportunities to talk to some of our current lifeguards, ask questions about the certification process, meet the supervisors and try out some lifeguard skills - in-water skills are optional but lots of fun!  Attendees who opt to practice lifeguarding skills will be able to use our rescue tubes, try entries into the water and attempt the course pre-requisites, including a 300-yard swim (12 laps).  Those who are ages 15 and older may register for our upcoming lifeguarding course, and fill out an application for current job openings.

This is a free event, open to residents as well as non-residents and pre-registration is not required.  Pizza will be provided.  East Hartford Parks and Recreation typically hires about 20 new lifeguards each year.  Lifeguards must be at least 15 years old and have current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguarding or be able to successfully complete a course prior to the start of the summer season.  Lifeguards are assigned to one of the town’s outdoor or indoor pools, and typically work a varied schedule including nights and weekends.  Working for East Hartford Parks and Recreation is a fun, rewarding experience.

The Parks and Recreation Department is offering both Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification courses this spring.  Those who are seeking certification are encouraged to register for the courses early as spaces are limited.  More information about our upcoming certification courses is available online at www.easthartfordct.gov/parks-recreation.
