East Hartford Youth Services to Dedicate CommUNITY Reflection Garden

Community Reflection Garden Dedication - October 7, 2017

Mayor Marcia A.Leclerc will be joined by the East Hartford Department of Youth Services to dedicate a CommUNITY Reflection Garden and associated mural outside their offices on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at 5PM. East Hartford Youth Services commissioned the mural, which was created by East Hartford children and their families under the guidance of Artist Faith Satterfield. The East Hartford Department of Public Works Parks employees worked with Youth Services to design and build an accompanying space to be used for Youth Services programing.

Prior to the Ribbon Cutting Mayor Leclerc and Youth Services Director Cephus Nolen will dedicate the garden, and Faith Satterfield will discuss the creative process of the mural. Families who participated are cordially invited to attend with their children and participate in the ribbon cutting. A short video documenting the process will also be played.

Work on the mural began in June, with a full week of structured creative design and painting by East Hartford youth under the guidance of Faith Satterfield of Murals by Faith who specializes in facilitating collaborative group artistic works. Work continued throughout the summer, and the result is a beautiful mural stretching along a perimeter fence adjacent to the Youth Services Department entrance.
