East Hartford, CT— On Monday, March 15, Mayor Marcia Leclerc joined Congressman John Larson, Senator Richard Blumenthal, Board of Education Chairman Bryan Hall and members of the East Hartford Town Council at a press conference to announce that the Town of East Harford will receive over $37 million in federal funds as part of the American Rescue Plan, signed into law by President Joe Biden on March 11, 2021.

“This is a very exciting time not only for the Town of East Hartford but for the State of Connecticut, and the entire country,” said Mayor Marcia Leclerc. “This funding is a lifeline for the entire community, including our students, families and businesses. I am proud of the work being done by our delegation that helped develop and pass this historic legislation that supports every resident of our community.”

Congressman Larson announced East Hartford will receive $37 million as part of the American Rescue Plan, which includes over $14 million for the Town and $23 million for the Board of Education.

“This bill puts shots in people’s arms, it puts money in people’s pockets, provides relief to the communities and creates jobs,” Congressman Larson said. “This is the most significant legislation Congress has undertaken since the New Deal.”

Mayor Marcia Leclerc said the funds will be put to good use, directly helping East Hartford, local students and families, and praised the delegation for their continued advocacy and support of the East Hartford community and strong partnerships that result in historic positive impacts like the American Rescue Plan.

BOE Chairman Bryan Hall said it makes his heart “feel good” knowing that our students will be receiving these funds. He said the passing of this bill will provide additional resources and the means for a greater education.

State Senator Richard Blumenthal said Connecticut will receive $4 billion dollars that can be used by municipalities “flexibly and adaptively for their needs.”

“We have listened to local leaders from East Hartford and around the state, and we have heard their message that they are hurting in this year of incredible hardship and heartbreak. We wanted to spare their taxpayers any additional burden.”
