East Hartford Senior Services Division Releases a Series of Fun Winter Programs

Fitness Class: Tai Chi and Qigong
Tuesdays, November 3—December 29, 10:00 AM

Experience the benefits of movement, meditation and mindfulness. Learn Tai Chi form (Chen style) movements and several Qigong exercises designed to boost energy and increase balance, flexibility, mobility, and relaxation. Beginners welcome! Classes are taught by a certified evidence-based Tai Chi and Qigong Instructor.  

Fitness Class: Gentle Movement Chair Exercise

Tuesdays and Fridays, November 3—December 29, 1:30 PM

Great for people of all activity levels. Those who are looking for easier, gentle exercise and those who are a little more fit. The class is designed to stretch, tone, activate and strengthen muscles that aren’t regularly used in a typical workout. The class also includes breathing exercise and relaxation techniques.

Fitness Class: Gentle Yoga
Tuesdays and Fridays, November 3—December 29, 1:30 PM

Enhance coordination, balance, flexibility, and strength with gentle yoga. Class is conducted laying or sitting down on a mat, in a chair and/or standing. Breath work is combined with moderate yoga postures, stretching and slow movement. Students are encouraged to work at their own pace, honoring their strengths and limitations. Modifications are offered for most poses honoring varying abilities. Come calm the mind and move the body.

Fitness Class: Zumba for Seniors
On your own, once a week, November 6—December 24
Put the fun back into fitness! Join the party! This class provides a more intense level of exercise than a Zumba Gold class. 

 

Fitness Class: Energetic Exercise
On your own, once a week, ongoing
This class is designed for those who want to improve their strength, muscle tone, and endurance through low impact aerobics, balance, and resistance exercises.

Silver Sneakers Chair Yoga
Thursdays, November 5—December 24, 3:00 PM
Fee: Free with 2300 Silver Sneakers membership card
Silver Sneakers Chair Yoga Gets you ready to move through a complete series of seated yoga poses. Chair support is offered so you can perform a variety of seated and standing postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement.

Silver Sneakers Stability
Fridays, November 6—December 18, 9:00 AM
Fee: Free with 2300 Silver Sneakers membership card
Stability is the newest class designed to help you become stronger and improve balance. The movements taught in class focus on specific exercises to improve strength and power around the ankle, knee and hip joints, while improving your reaction time. This class is designed for fall prevention and is suitable for nearly every fitness level.

Silver Sneakers Strength and Balance
Tuesdays and Thursdays, November 3—December 29, 11:00 AM
Fee: Free with 2300 Silver Sneakers membership card
Silver Sneakers Strength and Balance class improves flexibility, builds strength and develops control and endurance in the entire body. It puts emphasis on alignment, breathing, developing a strong core, and improving coordination and balance.

Silver Sneakers Classic
Mondays at 11:30 AM, Wednesdays at 2:30 PM, and Fridays at 1:00 PM
November 2—December 30
Fee: Free with 2300 Silver Sneakers membership card

Silver Sneakers Classic is designed to increase muscle strength, range of movement and improve activities for daily living. A chair is used for seated exercises and standing support and class can be modified depending on fitness levels.
