East Hartford Police to Participate in Dream Ride Police K-9 Challenge

The East Hartford Police Department is proud to announce that four of the department’s finest will participate in this year’s Dream Ride Police K-9 Challenge on Saturday, Aug. 4.

Two of East Hartford Police K-9s and their handlers—K-9 Casus-Belli and Officer Todd Mona as well as K-9 Capo and Officer Juan Rivera—are participating in the challenge.

The East Hartford Police Department has a very strong K-9 Unit that we are very proud of. In fact, the EHPD K-9s and their handlers participated in various competitions in the past and made our department proud.

For example, last year, East Hartford Police Officer Stephen Grossi and K-9 Hades won the Dream Ride Police K-9 Challenge. Most recently, Officer Mona and Casus-Belli have participated in the K-9 Olympics on July 28 in Enfield and won Top Team Obedience out of 35 competing teams. The K-9 Olympics is a day-long event involving K-9 units from local police departments. 

This year, the Dream Ride Police K-9 Challenge will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the grounds of the Farmington Polo Club, 152 Town Farm Road in Farmington.

"It’s a great event for us to participate in because it’s a giant fundraiser for the special Olympics and police K-9," said Ofc. Mona. "It’s the nation's largest fundraiser and it all takes place at the Farmington polo grounds Saturday, August 4.  We are very lucky to have the hometown foundation sponsor the event.  The foundation donates dogs, training and equipment to police canine units across the country."

The Dream Ride K-9 Challenge is a family-friendly event that offers something for everyone. The K-9 Challenge is a premiere competition, demonstrating the extensive training of both Police K-9 handlers and their working dogs. As part of the competition, K-9s and their handlers will demonstrate their talent, skill and obedience through an obedience skills test, obstacle course, suspect apprehension and other activities.
