Residents are asked to remove any decorations before October 15
cemetery cleanup

East Hartford, CT – The East Hartford Public Works Department would like to remind residents that all cemetery decorations and adornments, except for potted live plants and artificial plants that are in good condition, must be removed from the cemeteries owned and operated by the Town of East Hartford by Tuesday, October 15, 2019, in accordance with cemetery rules and regulations.

Once fall maintenance and cleanup of the cemeteries begin, maintenance staff will be disposing of unacceptable items if they are not removed by this date. The Public Works Department asks anyone owning cemetery decorations to pick them up prior to October 15, if they wish to keep them.

In accordance with cemetery rules and regulations for the Town of East Hartford cemeteries, decorations of any nature must be approved by the Cemetery Foreman prior to their installation. The acceptable decorations include:

  • Potted live plants placed on or abutting the memorials. Once the plants have ceased to bloom, they shall be removed; and
  • Artificial plants and flowers either in containers provided for such use or attached by acceptable clips. Artificial plants will be removed when they have deteriorated to an unacceptable condition.

These acceptable decorations will not be removed during cleanup if they are in good condition. If the plants have deteriorated or ceased to bloom, they will be removed. Anything other than the two above-listed decorations are not permitted and will be removed.

Please note that in the Military Veterans’ Section any decoration, other than a plant, service medallion and flag, will be removed. For further information regarding this notice or other cemetery questions, please contact Hillside Cemetery at (860) 528-4046.
