East Hartford, CT— Mayor Marcia Leclerc is pleased to announce the start of construction on the New Senior Center, at 15 Milbrook Drive, the former Blessed Sacrament Church. Work will begin on site on Friday, February 7, 2020.

“It has been my goal to provide our seniors with a state-of-the-art senior center offering activities, exercise, creative classes and wellness under one roof,” said Mayor Leclerc. “Without the financial support of the “Friends of East Hartford Senior Centers” and the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, this project wouldn’t have been fully realized.”

Designed by Christopher Williams Architects from New Haven, CT, building amenities include two physical fitness areas, a Technology Hub, a commercial kitchen, a demonstration kitchen, a dining area, arts and crafts room, game room, meeting space, a café, media room, health and wellness room, and an outdoor patio.

Construction manager David Cormier of Newfield Construction, from Hartford, CT, will oversee work from a temporary site office in the former residence at 23 Cambridge Drive.

The most important aspect of the construction process is safety, so Newfield Construction will install and maintain a secure perimeter fence at the site.  All visitors to the site should arrive at 23 Cambridge Drive and ask for Mr. Cormier. No traffic is allowed to enter or pass through the site once the work begins.

Work will run from 7 am to 4 pm on weekdays, with the potential for Saturday activity, if needed.  The Town asks for the patience and cooperation of neighborhood residents as this area gets busier towards a completion date in early November/December of this year.

Neighbors and contractors are asked to call Mr. Cormier at 860-982-6629 with any issues or concerns on the project.
