East Hartford Police Department Welcomes New Officers

The Town of East Hartford welcomed its newest Police Officers recently at ceremonies held at the East Hartford Town Hall.  On Wednesday, November 7, in the presence of family and friends, Officer Craig Cote was administered the Oath of Office by East Hartford Town Clerk Robert Pasek, overseen by Mayor Marcia Leclerc, East Hartford Police Chief Scott Sansom and several members of his Command Staff. 

On Monday, December 3, Officers John Sklenka and Andre Lyew were sworn in, also taking the Oath of Office administered by Town Clerk Pasek.  That ceremony was overseen by Mayor Leclerc, Chief Sansom, the East Hartford Police Department Command Staff, and a large gathering of family, friends, and fellow Officers. 

“It gives me great pleasure to welcome our newest police officers to our community,” said Mayor Marcia A. Leclerc. “I am certain they will be a credit to our Town, and I wish them luck with their training and a successful career at the East Hartford Police Department.”“We’re fortunate to be able to find such great recruits,” Chief Sansom said.  “There are many options for qualified candidates these days, so for them to select East Hartford says a lot about our agency and our community,” he explained.  “We look forward to having them join our Patrol Division, and anticipate these new East Hartford officers enjoying long careers here.” Officer Cote, 22, is a graduate of Juniata College where he earned a B.S. in Contemporary Law Enforcement.  He began approximately six-months of training at the Hartford Police Academy on November 12th, and upon graduation he will be receive approximately three months of Field Training.  Officers Sklenka, 36, and Officer Lyew, 29, both previously served with the New Haven Police Department.  They will begin their transitional training immediately, which will be followed by Field Training later this month.
