East Hartford, CT – Back by popular demand! This will be the third year for the EH-Hunger Action Team's Garden Bucket Sale! Over the last two years, the East Hartford community has come out and shown they enjoy having access to fresh veggies. So, East Hartford Youth Services has again teamed up with the East Hartford Hunger Action Team (EH-HAT), the Farm to School group, and new to the team this year is Handel Family Farms, to increase access to fresh, homegrown vegetables. This year we will again draw attention to the three community gardens in hopes of increasing their use by local community members.

This year's events will be held at Goodwin Elementary School. First, on June 7, 2023, from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM we will host a planting event and need community volunteers (service learning hours available!) to help us get all our plants ready to sell!

The 3rd Annual Garden Bucket Sale has been postponed to Thursday, June 15, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM. During this time you can pick up a Garden Bucket, visit some health and nutrition community resource vendors, and even sign up to help support the community gardens at Goodwin Elementary, and the ECLC at Hockanum Elementary.

Local community resources vendors will share health & nutrition information, recipe ideas, family events happening during the summer months, and free summer meal sites here in East Hartford.  They will feature UCONN, Intercommunity, Sodexo, and others.  There will be free ShopRite food bags for the first 100 families (supplied by Intercommunity)!

Garden Buckets let you start a garden on your patio, front steps, or anywhere around your house right in a bucket. Each Garden Bucket has everything you need to grow your own vegetables at home and will be fully prepared with soil, seeds, and come with growing tips! There will be a variety of vegetables available.

Please help support the East Hartford community with a small donation. There is a $5 suggested donation for one bucket and $10 for three. Any donation amount is appreciated and no one will be turned away. Funds raised will benefit a local food insecurity related effort.
