RELEASE:

(April 10, 2018) East Hartford, CT – For the 22nd consecutive year, the Town of East Hartford has been designated a “Tree City USA” by the Arbor Day Foundation. To commemorate this prestigious recognition and to celebrate Arbor Day, Mayor Marcia Leclerc, Town Dignitaries, the East Hartford Beautification Commission and Mayberry Elementary School students will host a tree planting ceremony at Mayberry School on Friday, April 27, at 10:00 AM.

“We are excited to once again receive the Tree City USA designation,” said Mayor Leclerc. “It is a testament to our commitment to the environment and to making our town a beautiful and healthy place to live and work. Additionally, the Arbor Day celebration provides us with an opportunity to teach children about the importance of trees at a time when communities around the globe are facing issues with air quality, water resources, energy usage and overall well-being.”

Arbor Day will kick off indoors at Mayberry School with a proclamation by the Mayor, and the presentation of the Tree City USA Flag. The day will continue outside with a tree planting ceremony. The Beautification Commission will also donate and plant a Mountain Laurel bush, the State Flower of Connecticut. The Tree City flag will then be raised, and will fly at Mayberry School through next Arbor Day.
