East Hartford, CT— Mayor Marcia Leclerc strongly encourages all residents and businesses to adhere to COVID-19 mask guidelines for the safety of our community. The Town of East Hartford is currently experiencing a high level of community transmission of COVID-19. All residents over 2 years of age should return to wearing masks when in indoor public spaces, regardless of vaccination status, to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

“We strongly encourage all businesses and organizations to adopt the Department of Public Health’s universal mask recommendation for indoor settings,” said Mayor Marcia Leclerc. “Businesses and organizations can help set the standard of protecting their employees and customers by implementing universal masking policies during this fourth wave of the pandemic.”

Masks reduce the risk of COVID-19 spread when they are consistently used by customers and employees, especially when physical distancing measures are difficult to maintain.  Effective Monday, August 2, the Town of East Hartford reinstituted face mask requirements for all employees and visitors regardless of their vaccination status.

A growing body of evidence indicates that fully vaccinated people are 3.5 times less likely to become infected with COVID-19 (including emerging strains, such as the Delta variant) and have an 8-fold lower risk of experiencing symptoms of illness. Furthermore, fully vaccinated individuals have a 25-fold reduced risk of hospitalization or death due to COVID-19.  Please be advised the Health Department continues to offer free and accessible vaccination clinics throughout town. If you have not received your vaccination, there is still time to do so. For a schedule of COVID vaccination clinics, please visit this link.
