East Hartford Fire Department's Response to COVID-19

fire department COVID 19

Over the course of the last several weeks information regarding COVID-19 has exponentially increased.  Awareness over the virus spread and impact on the public continues to evolve.  The Fire Department would like your help in protecting us, the first responder community, so we can remain healthy and continue to provide the service you have come to expect.

Your East Hartford fire stations are still staffed and operating at 100% and we will continue to respond if you call us.  If you are having an emergency, you can still stop at a fire station for assistance.  If you do interact with fire, police, or emergency medical services please advise us of the following:

  • Do you have a fever and/or cough?
  • Do you have difficulty breathing or shortness of breath?
  • In the last 14 days, have you been in contact with someone who had been tested or tested positive for COVID-19?

Letting first responders know if any of the above apply will help us protect ourselves appropriately.

Mayor Marcia Leclerc has ordered the closing to the public of all town buildings effective 3/16/2020.  One of the most iconic images of the American fire department is the fire trucks outside and the children from the neighborhood allowed to view and tour the truck.  Regrettably, until further notice the following public restrictions are being put in place:

  • No public tours or visits to the stations.
  • No visitors are allowed inside any East Hartford fire station.

These measures are being enacted to protect both the fire department personnel and the public.  Fire department personnel are at greater risk of exposure and we do not want to see the public exposed visiting a fire station.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during these times.  We look forward to continue serving you.
