East Hartford CONNects

A Working Cities Challenge Initiative

“East Hartford CONNects” is the name of East Hartford’s initiative for the Working Cities Challenge, the result of a grant competition organized by the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston to promote economic growth in low-income communities.  This is a collaborative effort led by East Hartford Public Schools in partnership with the Town of East Hartford, the United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut, the Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology, and Summerfield Townhouses, among others.

The initiative's goals are to assist residents of the Silver Lane neighborhood with career development and educational resources and to foster community engagement in the area.  Working Cities aims to improve local systems through cross-sector collaboration to more effectively serve residents, rather than being simply a program with a finite level of impact.  East Hartford's team was awarded $450,000 in early 2018 to implement these efforts over three years.
