Student art on display at Raymond Library

East Hartford Public Library is excited to welcome the community to view art created by students of Robert J. O'Brien, Anna E. Norris, and Silver Lane Elementary Schools. The colorful art is on display throughout the library's Children's Department on the main floor.

The art installation is part of an ongoing partnership between the schools and the East Hartford Public Library. During a teacher in-service held in the building, art teachers from across the district toured the library and discovered the permanent art and museum pieces on display and were invited to consider the Raymond Library as a public art space to share student art. Making use of art hanging systems already in place, display panels owned by the District, and the natural light within the Children's Department, the installation is a natural fit complementing the colorful book covers and filling the walls with the thoughts and dreams of East Hartford children.

Artwork on display has been created using a variety of mediums and techniques from watercolor and collage to paperfolding and pastels. Inspiration in the creation of some pieces includes the use of literature such as "Iggy Peck, Architect" by Andrea Beaty and "Windblown" by Edouard Manceau.  Some artists created a series of art with the same theme and others were challenged with a task such as using tape in their piece. Each artist's work is wonderfully unique.

Everyone is invited to visit the library to enjoy the artwork currently on display and to come back often to view future installations. Each elementary school will have art on display from now until the end of the school year.

The Raymond Library is located at 840 Main St., East Hartford.
