The East Hartford Public Library is open Mondays and Fridays from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, and Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM. Beginning on September 11, the library will be open from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM on Saturdays.

Library Programs
September and October library programs are now open for registration on the library’s event calendar.
 
Program highlights include:
 
  • Outdoor storytime and Hokey Pokey Party
  • Outdoor cooking and craft programs for school-aged children
  • Virtual craft and Makerspace programs for all ages
  • Teen Advisory Board (virtual)
  • Hartford Steel Symphony outdoor concert on Saturday, September 18 at noon
  • Living Room Conversations on Civic Engagement (virtual)
  • Small Business 101 webinars for established and aspiring small-business owners
  • Thunderbird American Indian dance troupe, outdoor performance Saturday, October 16 at noon
  • Center Cemetery tours, Saturday, October 16 at 4:00 and 5:30 PM
  • Coding Club for children and teens (grades 3 and up) beginning October 19 (hybrid)
  • Connecticut Women Artists exhibit opening Saturday, October 23

Library programs are offered free of charge and are open to residents of all towns.
 
Library Services
The library is currently offering the following services:
 
  • Full access to our adult and children’s collections, as well as new and popular materials for teens (backlist teen items will be paged by request)
  • Reference service in person and via e-mail (ehpl-reference@easthartfordct.gov)
  • Public computers and copier/fax service
  • Walk-up window access on the Central Avenue side of the building
Beginning September 1, the library will re-open for individual study, by appointment. Patrons may make one appointment per day for a study table, for a maximum of two hours. Appointments may be made by calling the library at 860-290-4330, and may also be available for drop in on a first-come first-served basis. Also on September 1, the time limit on public computers will be extended to two hours.
 
At this time, the library is not offering group study space, but there are outdoor tables and chairs on the library’s patio, and benches on the lawn. The Library’s lawn, patio, and parking lot are all served by robust WiFi.
 
Please note that meeting rooms are not available at this time. Instead, groups and organizations are encouraged to take advantage of the virtual meeting room service. Please visit this link for further details.
 
September is library card sign-up month! East Hartford residents can sign up for a library card by presenting a photo ID and proof of East Hartford address (in September, and all year long). Library cards are free of charge and provide access to our computers and collections, including online resources and e-books and e-audiobooks.
