Children’s Art from the Republic of Moldova

Now through the end of April, the East Hartford Public Library is hosting a mixed-media exhibit with the theme of “Peace on Earth,” developed by children from the Republic of Moldova, formerly part of the Soviet Union. The exhibit is in the recessed gallery on the ground floor of the atrium, next to the computer area.

The exhibit is being sponsored by the Fermata Arts Foundation. The overall mission of the Foundation is to aid in the preservation of peace through mutual respect, understanding and cooperation. The model for achieving this is through the synthesis of art, architecture, philosophy and poetry. The Foundation exists to promote and encourage true intercultural dialogue between countries, through which the representatives of different countries can discover shared values and spiritual commonality.

The Fermata Arts Foundation develops cultural partnerships between New England cities and cities in post-Soviet-era countries; provides opportunities for individuals to experience and explore other cultures; creates an atmosphere in which community development can be strengthened by stimulating environments through which communities will creatively learn, work, and solve problems together through reciprocal cultural and educational exchanges and projects; and collaborates with organizations in the United States and other countries which share similar goals.

There is no charge to view the exhibit, which may be viewed during the library's normal hours.
