Coffee With A Cop - Friday October 7th, 2016

October 3 - 7 is National Community Policing Week

The week of October 3-7 has been designated by the Department of Justice as National Community Policing Week. Community policing has long been considered a framework for establishing trust between the community and the police. However, over time the character and composition of our nation’s communities have changed due to shifting demographics, more commuters, and the introduction of different communication methods such as websites and social media.

In honor of National Community Policing Week, the East Hartford Police Department is joining police departments nationwide with a simple plan to break through the barriers that have been built over the years–a cup of coffee. ‘Coffee with a Cop’ opens the door for interactions outside of the crisis situations that typically bring law enforcement officers and community members together. On Friday, October 7th, the East Hartford Police Department is hosting the first of what will be a monthly event held at locations throughout the Town of East Hartford.

“Whether you’re a Town resident, you work in Town, or occasionally visit East Hartford, you’re an important part of our community,” said Police Chief Scott Sansom. “Everyone is welcome,” Sansom added. “Join your neighbors and police officers for coffee and conversation. No agenda or speeches, just a chance to ask questions, voice concerns, and get to know the officers in your neighborhood.”

The first East Hartford Police ‘Coffee with a Cop’ takes place from 7:30AM to 9:30AM on Friday, October 7th at Dunkin’ Donuts, 1084 Main Street, East Hartford, Connecticut.
