Submissions accepted: April - May 2016
Award Presentation: May 16, 2016 During regular Board of Education meeting to be held at the Connecticut IB Academy/Lecture Hall (857 Forbes Street, East Hartford) at 7:00 PM

Every year all East Hartford students are invited to submit essays entitled, “What the Flag Means to Me” in honor of Memorial Day. This annual essay encourages students to think about what the American Flag means to them individually and encourages students to develop a deeper understanding of the meaning of our flag. The top 4 essays are chosen to be read and recognized at the May Board of Education meeting. A patriotic trophy and American Flag is awarded as a prize.

This event is co-sponsored by the Patriotic Commission and Board of Education. Essays are submitted mid-April through May, for questions on participating please contact your child’s school.
