Law Enforcement Torch Run

Each year, just before the Special Olympics, members of Connecticut’s law enforcement community take it upon themselves to run the Special Olympics torch throughout Connecticut, raising awareness of this great event and the exploits of athletes with disabilities in our community. This year is the 30th annual Torch Run, and I am proud to say that East Hartford has run this event each year since since its inception in 1986.

I want to thank and congratulate all of our officers who participated this year, both by running and by supporting the event. We have a good showing and great support for the Torch Run each year, which shows the dedication and community spirit of our officers. Their high level of participation is a credit to the Town of East Hartford and their community.

The torch started the day in Enfield, and our officers took the handoff from the South Windsor Police at the South Windsor / East Hartford Town Line. They ran the torch down Main St., past the Town Hall and Pratt & Whitney, and to the Glastonbury Town Line. They handed the torch off to the Glastonbury Police, who ran it to the Glastonbury Police Department.

I want to give special recognition to one of our Deputy Chiefs, Tim McConville (pictured), who has run the torch every year since 1986.
