East Hartford Student Workers Are Helping Out the Town

This summer various town offices have hosted East Hartford high school students for summer jobs. This program was made possible by a partnership between Capital Workforce Partners and the Town. I am very glad to have hosted a great group of dedicated young residents.

This program is a win win for the students and the Town. The students are able to get valuable work experience that will help them find and succeed in future jobs – and they help our employees complete important special projects.

Our student workers at the Fire Marshal’s Office are a good example of this. Shariah Cardello (l) and Kelvin Ntiamoah (r) spent the summer designing and implementing a new system for tracking important permit and inspection documents which will greatly assist the Fire Marshalls in inspecting buildings and approving new work. The Parks & Recreation parks maintenance team also hosted a dedicated group of students who spent the summer beautifying and repairing Parks facilities around East Hartford.

Collectively, one hundred students worked with the Town, the Board of Education, the Metropolitan District Commission and the YMCA. A big thank you to all of the students who participated, and to our own State Rep. Henry Genga who organized the program.
