East Hartford Police Department Awards Ceremony

I always enjoy attending our Police Department’s annual awards ceremony, because it is an opportunity to recognize the great team of police officers and dispatchers who work together each day to make our community a safe and prosperous place to live, work and visit. It is clear to me that this is a very special day for the officers and their families. It is also clear that the actions we come together to recognize barely scratch the surface of the great and dedicated work these professionals do day in and day out.

Over 70 officers were recognized this year (and some more than once!) for their actions in over 20 cases that were significant and impactful on residents. Lives were saved, people were helped and dangerous criminals brought to justice.

In more than one case, officers were the first responders on the scene and performed lifesaving CPR that saved a life. One officer successfully intervened and prevented a man from ending his life and an emergency dispatcher successfully calmed bystanders over the phone, and talked them through lifesaving emergency techniques until emergency personnel arrived.

Several of our officers were recognized for safely and professionally resolving dangerous situations, and apprehending fleeing suspects. Multiple officers were recognized for their hard work on solving particularly dangerous or high profile crimes committed in previous years.  Officers were also commended for working with other police departments, as well as state and federal agencies, to solve large and complex crimes.

Each time I attend one of these events I come away with a profound appreciation for the professionalism, competence, and dedication put forward by the men and women. They work hard to protect our town, and connect with and serve each and every resident.
