CLARCOR Engine Mobile Group Presents Donation to Raymond Library

New East Hartford Business Gives $4,000 for LEGO Mindstorms Robotics Kits

One of the best parts of my job as Mayor is to meet new members of our community and welcome them to our town. One of the newest members of our community is CLARCOR Engine Mobile Group, who opened its East Coast Technology Center in East Hartford last November. CLARCOR designs and manufactures fuel, air, and oil filters for engines large and small.  CLARCOR is committed to hiring over 60 people at its new East Hartford location.

CLARCOR is not just a new taxpayer and employer in town, they are also interested in getting involved in their local community. In particular they are interested in fostering an interest in science and technology among young people and inspiring kids to pursue careers in these fields. CLARCOR gave a generous donation of $4,000 to Raymond Library, that will be used to purchase LEGO MINDSTORMS robotics kits.

The LEGO MINDSTORMS platform is a great and fun learning experience for kids of all ages, that empowers kids (and adults!) to design, create, and program robots of their own invention. The Library will purchase MINDSTORMS building kits for the use of its patrons and will also receive a 10-week curriculum to complement the kits. MINDSTORMS is a great way to teach Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) principles while also having a lot of fun.

I had the honor of accepting CLARCOR’s donation on behalf of the Library. Please join me in thanking CLARCOR for their generosity and good citizenship.
