Guidelines for Christmas Tree Disposal and Holiday Trash Schedule

The East Hartford Public Works Department will be picking up Christmas trees that are placed at the curb next to trash containers for a three-week period from Tuesday, December 27, 2016 through Friday, January 13, 2017, weather permitting. Collection of the trees will generally be on the same day as trash collection. Should the curbside collection fall behind schedule due to snow or unforeseen circumstances, residents are asked to leave the trees at the curb instead of removing them and putting them out again the following week. Trees must be removed from plastic bags and be free of any decorations.

Residents are also encouraged to bring their Christmas trees to the transfer station on Ecology Drive for disposal. Residents are not required to have a bulky waste permit to dispose of Christmas trees. Normal transfer station hours are 7:15 a.m. to Noon and 12:30 p.m. to 2:45 P.M. on Monday, Tuesday and Friday and from 8:00 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. on the first and third Saturdays of the month, holidays excluded.

The Department also reminds residents that residential trash and recycling collection will be delayed by one day starting on Monday, December 26, 2016 Thru Saturday January 7, 2017 due to the Christmas and New Year’s Day holidays. The transfer station and office will also be closed on December 26, 2016 and January 2, 2017.

Residents may call 860-291-7363 with questions about any aspect of the Town’s solid waste program. Information is also available on the internet at www.easthartfordct.gov/Public Works
