Emergency Preparedness

A division of the Health Department

The East Hartford Health Department, through a Public Health Preparedness grant from the US Centers for Disease Control and the State Health Department, conducts planning, training, exercise and intervention activities relative to the prevention and/or mitigation of disease outbreaks and injuries resulting from epidemics, weather-related events, disasters or bioterrorism.

The full-time Public Health Preparedness Coordinator marshals the planning and reaction cell for all public health threats and contingencies. Storm Alfred, Irene and Sandy recovery responses, the Gateway Apartment fire relief and relocation efforts and H1N1 Influenza pandemic containment measures in the recent past were great attributions to the department’s state of readiness and effectiveness in addressing public health emergencies.
